Nestled in the heart of beautiful Upstate New York, Haverstraw Hill began in 2018 with a mission to transform houses into warm, inviting homes.
Hi, I'm Donna!
Easter is one of my favorite times to host, and over the years, I’ve learned a few things about preparing for a gathering without feeling overwhelmed. The secret? Start early. Make a to-do list—it has helped me immensely! There’s something so satisfying about checking off tasks, knowing you’re making progress and setting yourself up for a beautiful, stress-free celebration.
Of course, if you know me, you know my Easter table is always whimsical—shocker, I know! I love layering different textures, mixing plates (they don’t have to match!), and adding height to each place setting. One of my favorite little details is tucking a tiny bunny or chick inside a folded napkin placed in the glassware—it’s such a charming touch! And let’s talk about color—there’s just something magical about purple at Easter. It blends so beautifully with pastels, making everything feel soft, happy, and festive.
Now, whether you’re setting the table with ceramic, bone china, or paper plates, remember this: beauty isn’t about how much you spend. It’s about creativity, personal touches, and, most importantly, the memories you create. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of my mom setting up for the holidays, and now, I get to pass that joy down to my own family.
At the heart of Easter (and any gathering, really) is the time we spend together. In the midst of decorating, cooking, and hosting, take a step back. Look around. Take a mental snapshot of the laughter, the conversations, the love in the room. These are the moments that matter. Life is short and fragile, and the richest part of it is the memories we make with those we love.
So, as you prepare for Easter, don’t stress over perfection. Enjoy the process, embrace the joy, and most of all—be present. That’s the true magic of any holiday.
